Governor Applauds New Budget, Legislators |
 |
 |
Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels is hailing the new state budget as a victory for taxpayers, and for education.
Daniels says legislators should be proud of making the Hoosier state only one of 8 to avoid cuts in education, adding that only Texas and Alaska are boosting education revenue more than Indiana.
Some are complaining about cuts for school districts with declining enrollment, but Daniels says those districts are actually receiving increases in per-pupil funding.
House Speaker Patrick Bauer says the new budget does have considerable money for capital improvement projects - and that goes right into the economy.
As to school funding - Bauer says it actually IS rocket science - and legislators need to study the issue in-depth to make school spending more fair.
