Petersburg Officer Shoots Suspect  E-mail

Police in Petersburg forced to respond with force to a domestic incident Monday night.
State Police say Petersburg Police officer Chad Tharp received a call about a domestic violence situation at a mobile home on Trafzer Street around 8:30 Monday night - and was walking to the trailer when 37 year old Michael Woodland walked out and then towards the officer with e high powered rifle.
Officer Tharp asked Woodland to put the weapon down, and when Woodland instead raised the rifle as if to shoot - the officer opened fire with his service weapon - striking Woodland several times.
Two other people were home at the time, and one of them was a child. Their relationship to Woodland is not known at this time.
Woodland was airlifted to an Evansville hospital for treatment - the officer was not injured.
