FDA Issues Report on Farm  E-mail

A Food and Drug Administration report calls sanitation practices poor at Chamberlain Farms near Owensville.
The report released Wednesday was the result of an August inspection August of the farm which voluntarily withdrew cantaloupes from the market after a salmonella outbreak sickened more than 250 people.
Two types of salmonella were discovered during the agency inspection, with 7 out of 50 environmental swabs collected at the scene showing positive for salmonella newport and two out of 50 positive for salmonella anatum.
An attorney for the farm released a statement Wednesday saying the family is continuing to cooperate in the investigation, but adding there is nothing in the report to indicate that conditions there contributed to any reported illnesses.
