Drug Scare Affects 500 In Area  E-mail

A nationwide drug scare hits the tri-state area.
Officials with Saint Mary's Health confirmed Thursday that a contaminated drug was given to more than 500 patients at an Evansville clinic, and there's already one case of fungal meningitis here as a result.
The contaminated steroid was injected epidurally into patients with back trouble, and the health group confirms today they've made personal contact with everyone here that's received the drug to let them know of the danger.
The spinal injections would have been given between July 1st and September 28th, and about 10 to 15 patients in the Evansville area have reported symptoms consistent with the meningitis.
Health officials do say - that the disease in this form can only be contracted through the tainted drug - it's not contagious.
