More trouble for Duke Energy's coal gasification plant in northern Knox County. The utility says it's found numerous technical problems at the plant in Edwardsport, and as a result will be forced to spend an additional $174 million on the site, and delay the plant's in-service date to May of next year. The generating station, which can use either natural gas, or synthetic gas made from the coal gasification process, has been beset with trouble and cost over-runs since construction started. Duke now says the estimated cost of the plant will be almost 3-point-2 billion dollars, nearly twice the original estimate.
