Unemployment Down  E-mail

Indiana's unemployment rate fell slightly during the month of October as officials say the state added nearly 8,000 private sector jobs.
Figures released Tuesday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development show unemployment in the Hoosier state dropped two tenths of a point, to 8 percent last month.
While Indiana's figure is slightly higher than the national 7.9 percent - it is better than its surrounding states other than Ohio, and Workforce Development commissioner Scott Sanders says Indiana has been outpacing the national job-growth rate in sectors such as manufacturing and construction.
Unemployment rates in the area turned up in October as follows: Knox and Warrick Counties 5.9 percent, Posey 5 and a half, Vanderburgh 6.8, Pike 7.1, and unemployment in Gibson County last month was at 6.2 percent.
