Immunizations Worry Health Department  E-mail

Officials with the Gibson County Health Department say they're concerned more and more young children aren't getting needed immunizations.
Since being forced by the state to offer their $8 immunization program to only uninsured or underinsured - those with insurance have been turned to their physicians - but Public Health Nurse Jennifer Tuley says those doctors aren't reporting increased numbers of immunizations given - and there's been a 60 percent drop in the number given at the health department.
Tuley fears that some parents are opting to not get immunizations for their young children now - and they'll have to catch-up before those children enter pre-school or kindergarten.
Tuley does add that her department is working to partner with insurance companies in the coming months so they can accept patients with health insurance.
