Gibson County Sheriff George Ballard says he's going to retire at the end of his current term. Ballard issued a press release Thursday announcing his retirement.
Ballard has served as sheriff for 5 terms - most recently being elected to the post in 2011.
His current term expires December 31st, 2014 - and by that time Ballard will have served deputy, sergeant, captain, or as sheriff - for some 39 years.
