The state‘s laws regarding mopeds are now up for a redesign. The current laws which refer to a moped as a "motorized bicycle" are decades old, and State Representative Milo Smith says it makes tracking issues with moped drivers very difficult. Smith is proposing a moped endorsement on a license or state I-D, after some amount of operator training, and moped registration. He'd originally wanted an insurance requirement for moped drivers, but he says if his bill is going to make it out of committee, it won‘t have mandatory insurance tied to it. The proposal will make its way in front of a House committee on Wednesday, where Smith is confident it will pass, though he isn‘t sure what the bill‘s odds are in the Senate.
