Indiana Governor Mike Pence sends a firm NO to Washington on Medicaid expansion. Reports indicate Pence has sent a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius saying the traditional Medicaid program is broken - and adding the Hoosier state will not expand it. What Pence is offering however, is to make the innovative Health Indiana Program, or HIP - the tool to serve an expanded Medicaid population. Pence told the feds HIP has bipartisan support and already has a strong track record of success, increasing preventive services among members, and encouraging them to make cost-conscious choices. Officials say Ninety-four percent of HIP members are satisfied with the program, and 99 percent say they would re-enroll.
