Legislator Wants Constitutional Convention  E-mail

The leader of the Indiana State Senate wants to amend the U-S Constitution as it has never been amended before.
Next week, Republican Senator David Long says he will call on Indiana‘s Legislature to become the first to pass a resolution calling for a constitutional convention.
Long says he would like the convention to consider amending the Constitution in two ways - to limit the federal government‘s use of the commerce clause on states and to limit federal taxing authority.
While it's not a direct response to the U-S Supreme Court‘s upholding of Obamacare last year, Long admits the health care law is a component of his plan - he does point to runaway spending by Congress and the lingering impasse over the federal budget and debt limit, as he seeks to have certain powers returned to the states.     32 other state legislatures would have to pass resolutions for a constitutional convention to take place, something that has never happened in the nation‘s history.
