A Vincennes man is dead following a Monday night officer involved shooting. State Police say a Vincennes Police cruiser was flagged down just before 10 PM Monday by friends of 42 year old Ross A. Darkis - who indicated Darkis was intoxicated and in possession of a handgun on the front porch of his home on Wilbur Street. Reports indicate that he'd been arguing with his girlfriend earlier in the evening and was very upset. As more police and Knox County Sheriff's Deputies arrived Darkis refused to turn over his weapon, with officers eventually trying a taser and a bean bag weapon in an attempt to defuse the situation. Police say that at approximately 10:25 PM Darkis raised the handgun, pointing at officers and several fired their weapons in defense. He was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital several minutes later. Names of the officers have not been released, and police are still investigating.
