A big drop in unemployment in Gibson County last month. Officials with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development say unemployment in Gibson County in April was 6.6 percent. That's nearly a full point lower than the 7 and a half reported in March, and also lower than the 7 percent reported for the same period a year ago. Statewide unemployment last month was 8.5 percent, two tenths lower than March. That's the largest drop in more than a year. Other area counties continue to do well on the unemployment front as well - Pike County 6.9 percent, Posey 6.7, Knox 6.3 and unemployment in Vanderburgh County last month was 7.2 percent.
