Lyles Station gearing up for an expanded celebration of Juneteenth this year. Events begin Wednesday at 11 with a discussion of the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, and continue through Friday when Lyles Consolidated School will host a barbeque that includes live jazz and gospel music. Saturday there will be a carry-in picnic at noon. All events are free of charge. The Juneteenth celebration commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas, 2 and one half years after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
