The Jasper Strassenfest Committee announced the theme for the 2015 Jasper Strassenfest to be held July 30th -August 2nd in downtown Jasper. This year residents of Pfaffenweiler, Germany will be visiting to join us for the 37th Anniversary of the Strassenfest in downtown Jasper. Since it's beginning in 1979, the Jasper Strassenfest has gotten bigger and better every year and now features a huge variety of food booths; entertainment on three downtown stages, plus competitive events for all ages. In Gypsy you’ll meet Rose and her two daughters June and Louise (based on the real life performers Rose Havock, Gypsy Rose Lee and June Havock, respectively) Rose is the determined and fiery mother who showcases June as the star of their musical hall performances. A unique struggle and when June quits and it is up to Louise to fill the role in an era when a life in show business faces great hardshop and change. Oakland City Lions Club Sweet Corn Queen pageant will be held Sunday, August 2nd , Little Miss Sweet Corn is scheduled for Friday, July 31st, and Jr. Miss Sweet Corn Pageant and Pre-Teen Pageant will be held Saturday, August 1st, all begin at 6 pm in Wood Memorial High School Cafetorium.
Sweet Corn Festival Parade will officially kick off the Sweet Corn Festival on Tuesday, August 4th, at 6 p.m. from Downtown Oakland City to Wirth Park. Festival is Tuesday thru Saturday, featuring delicious Smoked Pork Chop or Fried Chicken Dinners, with corn on the cob, beginning at 5 pm daily, in the air conditioned Community Center at Wirth Park. Lions Club will also be serving sandwiches for lunch, Wednesday thru Saturday from 11 a til 1 p. The public will also be able to purchase fresh sweet corn by the dozen during the festival. Sweet Corn Festival is sponsored by the Oakland City Lions Club, at Wirth Park, in Oakland City. Free admission, and free parking every night. Rides on the Midway begin each night at 5 pm.
Ride armbands available nightly during the festival. Register each day for Boys and Girls bikes to be given away on Saturday.
